Bug Description

Description: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
Release: 14.04

Hi,

Since the upgrade to 14.04 yesterday, I can't access my camera (FujiFilm FinePix S1600) anymore. This is what is logged into /var/log/syslog when I plug the camera in the usb port:

Apr 20 17:04:55 mm-xx kernel: [20993.276918] usb 3-2: new high-speed USB device number 9 using xhci_hcd
Apr 20 17:04:55 mm-xx kernel: [20993.462654] usb 3-2: New USB device found, idVendor=04cb, idProduct=0208
Apr 20 17:04:55 mm-xx kernel: [20993.462664] usb 3-2: New USB device strings: Mfr=0, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
Apr 20 17:04:55 mm-xx kernel: [20993.462670] usb 3-2: Product: USB PTP
Apr 20 17:04:55 mm-xx kernel: [20993.462674] usb 3-2: SerialNumber: 592D34383231100825DC350UR45112
Apr 20 17:04:55 mm-xx mtp-probe: checking bus 3, device 9: "/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:14.0/usb3/3-2"
Apr 20 17:04:55 mm-xx mtp-probe: bus: 3, device: 9 was not an MTP device
Apr 20 17:04:55 mm-xx colord: Device added: sysfs-(null)

But there is no icon in the Nautilus to open the camera and copy the images.

When I remove the usb cable, this shows in syslog:

Apr 20 17:05:33 mm-xx colord: device removed: sysfs-(null)
Apr 20 17:05:33 mm-xx kernel: [21031.599752] usb 3-2: USB disconnect, device number 9

Please help.

I can just add that it seems that the problem occurs in Ubuntu 14.04 generally and depends on the type of camera. This goes for Dell Inspiron, Dell Latitude and HP ZBook. My Nikon Coolpix S31 is not mounted although I can find it with lsusb which gives:
Bus 003 Device 005: ID 04b0:0341 Nikon Corp.
And I can extract images from the camera with Camera.app v. 0.8

On the other hand my Olymus XZ-1 is recognized as before.

I have installed apport if you want any data from one of my computers.

Hi,

Just a few questions:

1. This is something you wish me to do while I try to connect to the
camera that is unrecognized? I ask because I am now at work and this
camera is at home, so I can probably not check it until tomorrow.

2. I am not so advanced in Ubuntu, so I do not really know what the
difference between an Ubuntu repository kernel and a mainline one. And I
especially do not know what I should do to change between them.

Best regards,
Espen

Hi ALL,

I have to report the same problem on my Ubuntu 14.04 (previously - 13.10 and 12.04 - everything was okay) with my USB drive (WD My Passport).
There is no crashlog and the system hangs few seconds after I plugged-in the USB cable and I cannot type any CLI command, only mouse works, but it is not possible click anywhere. The system is stuck until I unplug the cable

I collected

Everything all fine before upgrading to 14.04. Now my Fujifilm Finepix LSS camera is not mountable.

Is this being investigated by someone?

I'm having to use windows with my camera now. :(

Same problem for me in 14.04 - my (old) laptop just doesn't see my Fujifilm XP200 anymore.

I'd love to help, upload reports or log files etc., but I just don't quite understand how.
I see that penalvch has regularly requested more information about this issue on this page, and added some etiquette links - but they make little sense to me :o(
The last time I tried to report a bug (years ago), I quickly got lost. I was even told the problem had been fixed, solution available in the next kernel (it wasn't).

Perhaps a list of commands to run, or list of files to go and find?
Could someone brainy create a simple bug-reporting-web-interface page to upload any files?
