Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.14 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Beside suspension, also shutdown is affected: sometimes the system freezes at the end of the shutdown procedure

I confirm this bug. It happens at resume from suspension and also shutdown sometimes blocks.

kernel 3.16, Ubuntu 14.10. Dell XPS 13 9333. Failure at suspend/resume and also shutdown.

I have what appears to be the same issue with kernel 3.18

I appears that this may be an issue with Intel AMT, as suggested here: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=86241

A possible fix may be blacklisting the "mei_me" and "mei" modules in etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

Blacklisting "mei_me" and "mei" does not solve the problem on my system, kernel 3.16.0-41.

My last comment above was too early. I thought I had rebooted after blacklisting "mei_me" and "mei" and encountered the same problem again, but it might not be true. I've never met the failing resume after suspend since I leaving the impatient comment #12 and strongly suspect either "mei_me" or "mei" have been causing the problem.
