Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.13 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Joseph Salisbury, after reporting this bug I tried changing some settings in alsamixer but it didn't seem to fix the issue. Then, after a reboot it started working although I didn't notice straight away so I'm not exactly sure what has made it work. This also happened on 13.10 -- i.e., it needed some encouragement before it starting working.

I've just installed and tested kernel 3.14-rc4 and the sound is also working fine.

Once 3.14 is included on the daily LiveCD I'll re-test to see if I still get 'no sound' on the fresh/clean image.
