Bug Description

Tried the same than bug #1263015 but came up with a different workaround. Install via LiveUSB created with unetbootin off the saucy amd64 iso was able to be completed with "nomodeset". First boot into installed system resulted in lightdm "cowbell" being played but a backlight on / blank screen on the display. using nomodeset on installed system results in framebuffer/console being usable - but no X able to start (cannot find screen). tried some alternative kernel options : acpi_backlight=vendor, video=1920x1080-24@60 but with same results.

WORKAROUND: set "nomodeset" in grub config, and install nvidia-prime package. Reboot. lightdm/screen works fine, however some video-related features are still broken, such as external screen (not even detected) and suspend to RAM (comes back alright from suspend, but for the screen that stays black).

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.13 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Tried v3.13-rc7 with no luck, problem is the same (system boots fine to the "cow bell" sound, but the screen stays blank).

(note that I do what I'm asked, but I think this was also done in bug #1263015, just want to make sure I'm not wasting you guys' time).

Thanks
