This bug might actually be _not_ a duplicate of #194214 after all. However, over there they appear to have found a workaround patch, so can those of you that still experience the bug update their xserver-xorg-core and report whether this also fixes the problem described here?
I'm rather reluctant to test it myself, since a) the kernel upgrade fixed the problem for me 100% and b) I am using xserver-xorg-core 1.3.0.0, which predates version 1.4.1 that apparently introduced the bug #194214).
