Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.12 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

I'd like to perform a bisect to figure out what commit caused this regression. It would be very helpful to know the earliest kernel where the issue started happening as well as the latest kernel that did not have this issue.

Can you test the following kernels and report back? We are looking for the earliest kernel version that exhibits this bug:

v3.5 final: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.5-quantal/
v3.6 final: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.6-quantal/
v3.7 final: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.7-raring/

You don't have to test every kernel, just up until the kernel that first has this bug.

Thanks in advance!

I'm having this issue as well. I just tried the following mainline kernel per the instructions above and the symptoms are the same.

Linux gilmour 3.12.0-999-generic #201311020446 SMP Sat Nov 2 08:48:35 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

(I had this problem mid 13.04 as well, but didn't spend any time looking into the cause at that time...)

@spise, were you able to test the kernels requested in comment #20? I see a reply in comment #21, but it's not translated. To perform a bisect, we need to know the last good kernel version and the first bad kernel version.

I found a solution to this bug, please see my post here:

http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=170425

In short, you need to enable the UVC_QUIRK_PROBE_DEF quirk by following these steps:

1. Unplug your webcam
2. Unload the uvcvideo module (sudo rmmod uvcvideo)
3. Reload the module with the quirks parameter set to 0x100 (sudo modprobe uvcvideo quirks=0x100)
4. Replug your webcam
