Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.12 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

I've tested both 3.12-RC4 and 3.11.4 kernels and HDMI audio didn't work at all (it is enabled, pulseaudio shows correct output but no sound comes from the TV). With 3.8.0.31 kernel this behaviour shows up only after suspend.

With 3.11 and 3.12 kernels HDMI output is broken totally. Tested with Xubuntu 13.10 too. bug #1239233

giannis, did this problem not occur in a release prior to Raring?

Yes this problem does NOT occur in Xubuntu 12.04.3 (3.2 kernel). I just tested it.

iannis, the next step is to bisect from kernel 3.4 to 3.5, in order to identify the offending commit. Could you please do this following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection ?

I tested 3.4.67 and it is working properly. Should I search which version of 3.5 kernel introduced the bug?

Giannis, could you please provide the specific 3.5 kernel that demonstrates this by typing at a terminal:
