You may need to run the following:

sudo apt-get install -f
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update

Then re-install the package.

If that does not resolve your issue, please mark the bug as "Confirmed"

In my case, this installation failed due to lack of space on the /boot partition

removing older linux-image and linux-image-extra packages cleared the problem.

I also received a message about insufficient space on /boot. Could this be due to the fact that the I've enabled hard disk encryption?

Hans Ginzel (hans-matfyz) wrote :

In my case it was because I had a small (480 MB) /boot partition and there were lot of (~10) 3.8 kernels. I have uninstalled older ones by hand and now the installation is OK. I have encrypted home and I don't think that could be reason for insufficient space on /boot.

Marking as a duplicate of a more generic "Not enough disk space for kernel security update on /boot" issue, since it's clear that this is the same issue.
