Bug Description

The brightness is locked to the brightest setting (eye-melting-bright).
I upgraded to the latest BIOS to this date : 6.70
Below are my different attempts at setting the brightness using the command line (GUI don't work either).

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""
/sys/class/backlight/ is populated
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/max_brightness:100
changing /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness has no effect

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="acpi_osi=Linux acpi_backlight=vendor"
/sys/class/backlight/ is empty

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="acpi_osi="
/sys/class/backlight/ is populated
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/max_brightness:7
changing /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness has no effect

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="acpi_osi=\"!Windows 2012\""
/sys/class/backlight/ is populated
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/max_brightness:7
changing /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness has no effect

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.10 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Done. I tried all 4 ACPI config values, same results.

Funny enough, trying this broke my user session.
I had my desktop background, I could right-click it, but no launcher and no 'super' shortcuts...
I renamed my homedir and created a new directory and it started like normal.
Now, I have to find what's broken in it :-/

Hi, I haven't followed the given link yet, but I found a solution : use nvidia's proprietary drivers.
As soon as the driver is loaded, the settings scrollbar is working. Not the hotkeys though...
I'll have a look into that.
