Some more info - just got a hard lockup while playing a game (F4 BMS on wine) due to what looks like the same bug. This is the last entry in syslog before the lockup happened:

Jul 22 23:36:37 blueberry pulseaudio[2846]: [alsa-sink] alsa-sink.c: ALSA woke us up to write new data to the device, but there was actually nothing to write!
Jul 22 23:36:37 blueberry pulseaudio[2846]: [alsa-sink] alsa-sink.c: Most likely this is a bug in the ALSA driver 'snd_usb_audio'. Please report this issue to the ALSA developers.
Jul 22 23:36:37 blueberry pulseaudio[2846]: [alsa-sink] alsa-sink.c: We were woken up with POLLOUT set -- however a subsequent snd_pcm_avail() returned 0 or another value < min_avail.
