[Dell XPS L322X] Backlight control problems (3.8.0-25-generic #37-Ubuntu SMP)

After upgrading to 3.8.0-20.31 kernel my backlight control stopped working. It was working on previous versions of the kernel. I know other people reported this bug before and that 3.8.0-20.31 kernel was suppose to fix it; but in my case it was working before and this update broke it.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.10 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

I've tested the latest 3.10 kernel and nothing changed. I will upload a apport-collect report.

It seems I could not upoad an apport-collect report; anyway backlight control is not working with 3.10.0-031000rc1-generic #201305130510. I've added the tag and marked it as 'Confirmed'

After updating to 3.8.0-21-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP it's working again.

I have the same problem, after updated to kernel 3.8.0-23-generic, the backlight control stops working. I have to stick with 3.5 kernel, otherwise, eyes will be damaged.

Luis Angel Vicente Sanchez, as per http://www.dell.com/support/troubleshooting/us/en/19/Product/xps-13-l321x-mlk an update is available for your BIOS (A09). If you update to this, does it change anything?

If not, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
