Bug Description

Dear community,

I've got the notebook mentioned above. I've installed Ubuntu 13.04 (latest
updates, kernel 3.8.0-18) on this machine and got several issues:

1.) The most anyoing one (Broadcom BMC 43142):

I can't work on console due to the spamming of the following message all
two seconds:

ERROR @wl_cfg80211_get_station : Could not get rssi (-1)
ERROR @wl_cfg80211_get_station : Could not get rate (-1)

I don't know if it's a known bug in this combination. The issue is common
known on other hardware configs.

If you guys need more testing / informations (e. g. another apport) let me know. I'll do anything to get this chip work. Due to whitelist policity and the SecureFlash feature there is no chance to change the wlan modul in this notebook. :(

If someone got a link for the drivers linux-sources I'll try to compile it myself.

Your first issue appears to be a duplicate of bug 1107155 . There is a workaround in that bug, see comment #5. If that workaround works, we can focus this bug on your other issue.

You are my hero! :)

The workaround was the solution for my WLAN problem. Thank you!

+ the connection is more stable and reponsable
+ the annoying message is gone
- the datarate and signalstrength drops a bit

For the acpi-errors I'll try to summarize them tomorrow. Thx for your support again.

When filing an ACPI related bug, please attach the following information to the bug report as _separate_ attachments:

Output of uname -a

Output of sudo dmidecode > dmidecode.txt ... done
Try to hibernate/suspend and then restart the system and attach /var/log/kern.log.0 ... done

What I can say and found out:

- Brightness adjustment is very weak. On console only 2 levels of brightness available.
Under KDE and Unity the behavior is very strange: If the powermanagement is going to work the brightness is increasing instead of decreasing (as aspected).
Adjusting manually works. But as soon as the powermanagement is going to work the adjustment is lost.
- Battery drains faster than under Windows 8 (Linux ~ 4h, Windows ~ 5,5h).

The 6.20 version of the bcmwl drivers seems to drop some older drivers.
See also https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bcmwl/+bug/923809/comments/31

A possible workaround could be a re-release of the 5.100 version as bcmwl-5-kernel-source.
If this is done, the adjustment of dependencies (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1085482) should be also applied to the 5.100 branch.

A "no change backport" from raring was installed. Please keep in mind that an equivalent package already landed in precise-updates which will break the functionality also in this precise.

I also have a similar problem on Ubuntu 13.04 with latest kernel 3.8.0-19-generic. My problem can be considered as crital since when I enable broadcom proprietry wireless driver, ubuntu freezes on boot.

Below is the kernel log just before the freeze:

This is a serious problem, it can affect other devices on the network while appearing to work fine for the machine running it. It caused me to buy and return 2 wifi routers and spend 20 hours of time debugging the situation.

Switching to b43 on 13.04 resolved the network issues on my dell latitude e6510, but it has the familiar suspend/resume problem (reload the module as a workaround).
