To be clear:

My ethernet worked, and then I did an apt-get update, apt-get upgrade, rebooted, and ethernet no longer worked.

I'm so sorry, this bug is invalid.

My computer was up for 46 days, and it just so happened that at the exact moment I decided to finally reboot into a newer kernel, the network switch that my computer is plugged into went into an invalid state for the first time ever.

So the issue was that I had to reset the switch, not anything with the linux kernel.

Changed in linux (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → Medium
status: Confirmed → Incomplete
status: Incomplete → Invalid
