Bug Description

I have a lenovo T500 and when booting on battery the Ethernet card does not work. If the laptop is on AC it does. If I plug the AC in after boot the Ethernet card begins to work and remains working even if the AC is removed.

Ethernet works if the acpi=off is added to grub.

Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a kernel version where you were not having this particular problem? This will help determine if the problem you are seeing is the result of the introduction of a regression, and when this regression was introduced.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.9 kernel[0]. You will need to install both the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

I usually use this docked -- so I can not say if it has been in Raring the entier time or not. I will test the mailine later tonight and update the bug after. I am also willing to boot with previous versions of raring and will do that if the mainline does not show an improvement.

I'd like to perform a reverse bisect to figure out which commit upstream fixes this regression. It would be very helpful to know the last kernel that had this issue and the first kernel that did not.

Can you test the following kernels and report back? We are looking for the earliest kernel version that doesn't have this bug:

v3.9-rc4: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.9-rc4-raring/

If v3.9-rc4 exhibits the bug then test v3.9-rc6:
v3.9-rc6: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.9-rc6-raring/

If v3.9-rc4 does not exhibit the bug then test v3.9-rc2:
v3.9-rc2: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.9-rc2-raring/

You don't have to test every kernel, just up until the first kernel that does not have this bug.

One thing to note, you will need to install both the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

Thanks in advance!

This seems similar to bug 1169244, can you confirm v3.9-rc2 does not exhibit the bug?

I built a Raring test kernel with commit 66148ba applied.

The test kernel can be downloaded from:

Can you test that kernel and report back if it has the bug or not.

One thing to note, you will need to install both the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

But it will work if you boot with "acpi = off". There used to be a power tweak option to enable ethernet while on battery, but there is no longer such an option in under network settings. I am trying to figure out howto tweak this, with no luck so far.
