Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.9 kernel[0]. You will need to install both the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

With the default kernel the screen remained blank on resuming.

With the upstream kernel [0], on resuming I got to see just the wallpaper, followed by an error stream on the terminal. The only thing I noticed there was 'nouveau' on every line. Then it went back to the login prompt.

My model number is PTMB3*-******

There is no BIOS update available for my model. I ran the commands. My current BIOS is:

Version: 1.80
Released: 11/13/2008

Also I'll be having this laptop for probably another month, so I won't be able to help after that.

Siddhanathan S., could you please provide your full computer model as noted on the sticker (ex. Tecra M10-S1001)?

Siddhanathan S., as per http://www.toshiba.co.uk/innovation/download_bios.jsp?service=UK an update is available for your BIOS (3.00-WIN). If you update to this, does it change anything?

If not, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Thank you for your understanding.
