Bug Description

I expected the built in keyboard and touchpad to work.

Instead, the built in keyboard and touchpad do not work.

It doesn't happen every time, but it is pretty consistent after the kubuntu "live cd" fails to shutdown properly; the problemu is in progress when the information added to this report was taken (this text is written using a wireless keyboard plugged into a USB 3.0 port). The keyboard is not completely dead, Fn+F7 (LCD backlight on/off), Fn+F10/F11 (volume up/down), work, but all other things do not.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.8 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

I'm working on it, it took longer than I anticipated, since it involves rebuilding the live USB. Should get back to you no later than Saturday this week.

I seem to be unable to help.

All my efforts at creating a Live USB stick with the new kernel fail, and this is not because of the Kernel, it boots fine in a VirtualBox (although two-finger scrolling stops working).

I have also been unable to free up space on my hard-drive in order to install 13.04 along side with 12.04 LTS.

Sorry.

This effects me as well, but I just installed Ubuntu-Gnome 13.04. I will try installing the kernel update as mentioned in the previous post and let you know what happens.

It appears just modifying this line in grub fixed it for me.

[GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash i8042.reset i8042.nomux"]

I didn't bother with the kernel update.

The bug is bag in 14.04 (but was gone in 13.10). The work-round proposed OO-Dragon worksi.e. in /etc/default/grub, changing from:

[GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"]

to

[GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash i8042.reset i8042.nomux"]

...and then doing:

sudo update-grub

...fixes the problem.
