To me this seems a kernel scheduling problem and I experimented with the a few well know RT hacks.
Create the file /etc/security/limits.d/audio-limits.conf with the following content:
# /etc/security/limits.d/audio-limits.conf @audio - rtprio 99 @audio - memlock 512000 @audio - nice -19
Reboot and then apply the following command: for i in $(pgrep softirq); do chrt -f -p 99 $i; done
And check if you notice a difference, please?
