I'm not sure if this is worth it... Reverting that commit would be a lot more straightforward, and that's probably what I'll end up doing. However, this patch makes the driver "more correct" -- although it's still a long way from being right. But the only way to fix this properly is to rewrite a large chunk of the code, and that's just not feasible for a simple regression fix.

In the meantime, I'd like to know what happens when you apply this patch to the non-working kernel. Does the sound come out right? And either way, what does the "periodic" file say?
