Testing this machine with 12.04.2 and the MMC function of the card reader is spotty at best with a known working card (card has been proven in many machines over the last week to work fine).
dmesg output shows the following on most attempts to insert an MMC card:

This does not occur with SD and SDHC that I can tell, but with MMC, the odds are about even that the card will or will not be seen and mounted on insert.
