Bug Description

I was previously running Ubuntu 11.10 on my T3400. No further updates were being offered, so I upgraded first to 12.04 LTS. I noticed that the built-in Ethernet hardware is not recognized.

Then I upgraded to 12.10, hoping this would be resolved. It was not.

Fortunately my T3400 has an added WiFi card and it is recognized, that is how I am able to go on-line.

But I wish the built-in Dell-provided Ethernet hardware was recognized. I don't understand how a bug like this can go undetected through software development and testing among peers, the T3400 isn't some isolated oddball computer.

I can't do it. Here is why:

When I open a terminal window and type: apport-collect 1095060

This is the result: ERROR: The launchpadlib Python module is not installed. This functionality is not available.

It's a brand new installation of 12.10 but it seems there are many problems.

PS: Under Ubuntu 11.10 the built-in Ethernet hardware on my T3400 was indeed recognized and fully operational, as was the WiFi card.

It is only since upgrading that my T3400 Ethernet hardware is not recognized at all.

Can somebody with programming experience or hacking experience go back to 11.10 and compare it with 12.xx and figure out what has been changed?

I don't think I can quite agree with this decision in status.....the lack of recognition in Ethernet hardware would seem to rate this as much higher than it's been given.
