Bug Description

The Lenovo U2L100P-Y1 (Carbon X1) does not have proper support for the asix USB networking driver. This bug present on the latest quantal and precise. However, this is working properly in raring.

The commit that adds this functionality is:
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git;a=commit;h=66dc81ecd71332783c92fb170950d5ddb43da461

--

SRU Justification:

Impact: Lenovo Carbon X1 have a asix USB networking driver that doesn't work on Precise and Quantal. By enabling this small backport, usb networking works.

Fix: Backport upstream commit 66dc81ecd71332783c92fb170950d5ddb43da461. This commit is present in Raring.

Testcase: Try booting Lenovo Carbon X1 and try asix USB networking driver. If we can test a valid connection and pass traffic then the test passes.

Chris J Arges (arges) wrote :

Quantal / Precise kernels have been verified from another user using amd64. I'll get these ready for the SRU process.
In the meantime I'll also work on an i386 build, although there is no architecture dependent code in this patch so I expect the same results.

This bug is awaiting verification that the kernel for Quantal in -proposed solves the problem (3.5.0-22.33). Please test the kernel and update this bug with the results. If the problem is solved, change the tag 'verification-needed-quantal' to 'verification-done-quantal'.

If verification is not done by one week from today, this fix will be dropped from the source code, and this bug will be closed.

See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Thank you!

This verified cleanly in both Precise and Quantal.

When should we expect an updated linux-image-generic-lts-quantal package to show up in precise-proposed?

Brandon, thank you for testing. Regarding your question, you should have already an lts available in -proposed. The package name is linux-lts-quantal:

$ rmadison --architecture=source linux-lts-quantal
linux-lts-quantal | 3.5.0-21.32~precise1 | precise-security | source
linux-lts-quantal | 3.5.0-21.32~precise1 | precise-updates | source
linux-lts-quantal | 3.5.0-22.33~precise1 | precise-proposed | source

Works as expected on precise. Thanks.

Thanks for the clarification, Luis. I've now also verified functionality in the linux-lts-quantal package.
