Managed to boot into system by:
  - Power cycling multiple times, booting regularly would bring to a similar situation as https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/984127
 - It would complain that fschk needs to be done, however, no button press or command would respons
 - I kept power cycling, let it sit for a bit, power cycled, tried recovery mode a few times, that would just freeze.
 - One time (this time) recovery mode worked, from there I did resume normal boot.
