I have that module on my system. Can you check in the following directory:

/lib/modules/3.5.0-17-generic/kernel/fs/hfsplus/hfsplus.ko

I don't have it.

Just do the following command and you will see that it is not part of the package:
dpkg -L linux-image-3.5.0-17-generic | grep hfs

Also do this to see deb package it originates from:
dpkg -S /lib/modules/3.5.0-17-generic/kernel/fs/hfsplus/hfsplus.ko

dpkg -S /lib/modules/3.5.0-17-generic/kernel/fs/hfsplus/hfsplus.ko
linux-image-extra-3.5.0-17-generic: /lib/modules/3.5.0-17-generic/kernel/fs/hfsplus/hfsplus.ko

Do you have the linux-image-extra package installed? If not, you can get it from:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/3.5.0-17.28/+build/3892022

Indeed, thank you!

linux-image-3.5.0-17-generic can at least recommend linux-image-extra-3.5.0-17-generic.
