Bug Description

As indicated by the summary, there are patches that fix a problem with the Hauppauge HVR-950Q USB tuner for Mythbuntu 12.04.

The problem that occurs is that when the analog side of the tuner is touched, currently, the 3.2.0 kernel for 12.04 Mythbuntu kills mythbackend, and dumps a bunch of trace data into the syslog.

I am including some comments and a link to the commit from Devin Heitmueller below:

Sounds like a plan!

FYI: the problem in the au0828 driver has been identified and a fix
is pending to go upstream.

I did not add logs for this as they originally happened quite some time ago. I did provide the logs to Devin.

@jr3us,

Is this patch heading upstream? I'd feel better about picking it up if it has reached Linus' tree. This indicates it's gone through more peer review and testing.

Brad,

I perused the source file
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=blob;f=drivers/media/usb/au0828/au0828-video.c;h=87058557057133f9d209e842c60f000e02f93fba;hb=0e51793e162ca432fc5f04178cf82b80a92c2659

in the stable 3.6.1 kernel, and it shows the patches applied. Around line 1700 +- of the above source, you will find the patch from Devin applied.

Looks like it has made it to the current 3.6.1 stable kernel.

Thanks!

This bug is awaiting verification that the kernel for Precise in -proposed solves the problem (3.2.0-33.52). Please test the kernel and update this bug with the results. If the problem is solved, change the tag 'verification-needed-precise' to 'verification-done-precise'.

If verification is not done by one week from today, this fix will be dropped from the source code, and this bug will be closed.

See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Thank you!

Commit a595c1ce4c9d572cf53513570b9f1a263d7867f2 was a clean cherry-pick with obvious fixes and has bubbled down through stable for various releases. Therefore I'm marking verification-done-precise.
