Bug Description

Quantal kernel for precise LTS testing: Nvidia driver fails (dkms error)

Is this issue reproducible with the latest 12.04 kernel in 12.04?
No

Is this issue reproducible with the 12.10 kernel in 12.10?
Not tested

Ubuntu 3.5.0-15.23~precise1-generic 3.5.4
lspci output attached.

1)
Description: Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS

3) Expected to happen: Upgrading the kernel should make everything work normally. I have a v4l device that needs a newer kernel, or v4l modules backported: http://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Geniatech/MyGica_SBTVD_Stick_S870

4) What happened: The nvidia proprietary driver failed to work, log with error attached).

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.6 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. Please only remove that one tag and leave the other tags. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

This bug is probably related to #1070405
I did the following 2 things and don't have the problem anymore:

Removed gcc 4.4/4.5 and cpp 4.4/4.5 (only kept 4.6)

Replaced nvidia-current (295) with nvidia-current-updates (304).

Remember i have 2 different machines and the "workaround" worked on both.
