Regular update via GUI got hung for a while and computer was manually (unplugged) powered off.

Bug still persists and update will not finish. At least it doesn't hang anymore.

I'm ready to dump Ubuntu.

You may need to run the following:

sudo apt-get install -f

Then re-install the package.
