Fortunately, I have another partition on the same computer running powerpc 12.04 which i am using right now. It surptrised me to see that this bug made it through from the 12.10 installation as I thought my 12.10 froze to soon. Need to mark the install attempt as a failure on qa-tracker and tie it to this bug.

Zsynced Lubuntu desktop powerpc 12.10 dated 20120920,
dd the iso to a USB and booted through OpenFirmware with the following command:

boot usb0/@1:2,\\yaboot

Set kernel mode on yaboot: video=offb:off video=radeonfb:off video=1024x768-32 radeon.agpmode=-1
The normal kernel mode: live (does not get a working install due to poor graphics)

Install appeared to go well with good graphics during the install. Then as I was testing the browser (firefox) the computer
freezes, flashes to a tty screen scrolls and closes very quickly. I can get to the kern.log if needed.

For the install you are using radeon.agpmode=-1 (which usually fixes freezes) but for the booted system you don't have that parameter. The installer is a bit random on what it copies.....can we deduce it probably copies stuff beginning video= but not other stuff?

If you need to add radeon.agpmode=-1 to your yaboot.conf then here is the link on how to do it https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PowerPCFAQ#How_do_I_make_a_yaboot_parameter_permanent.3F
