This issue appears to be an upstream bug, since you tested the latest upstream kernel. Would it be possible for you to open an upstream bug report at bugzilla.kernel.org [1]? That will allow the upstream Developers to examine the issue, and may provide a quicker resolution to the bug.

If you are comfortable with opening a bug upstream, It would be great if you can report back the upstream bug number in this bug report. That will allow us to link this bug to the upstream report.

This could possibly be caused by firmware as it shows in fwts log. But I also wonder if it's a kernel regression as this machine should have already been certified with 11.10. Two things worth trying:
1. remove the BIOS battery, and the re-install it, and test again.
2.re-test this machine with 11.10, if 11.10 works but 12.04 doesn't, it's a regression.

@Jeff
The errors reported by fwts refer to a firmware bug, can all suspend/resume cycles pass albeit this error?

added fwts to this. They should take a look and decide whether the firmware complaints should block certification.

I suggest to have the blocks-hwcert tag removed similar to bug 1152484 due to the same rationale.

The severity for LVT issue was down to the medium after fwts version V0.26.07. set the bug to invalid.

Jeff Marcom, as per http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/Product/inspiron-one-2305 an update is available for your BIOS (A08). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate , does it change anything?

If not, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Thank you for your understanding.
