Trying to run apport-collect, but it repports "no additional information collected"?

Brian Murray (brian-murray) wrote :

apport-collect will not work in this case as you have not filed a bug about an ubuntu package rather about the ubuntu-qa-website project.

affects: ubuntu-qa-website → linux (Ubuntu)

This bug is missing log files that will aid in diagnosing the problem. From a terminal window please run:

apport-collect 1020041

and then change the status of the bug to 'Confirmed'.

If, due to the nature of the issue you have encountered, you are unable to run this command, please add a comment stating that fact and change the bug status to 'Confirmed'.

This change has been made by an automated script, maintained by the Ubuntu Kernel Team.

Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a kernel version where you were not having this particular problem? This will help determine if the problem you are seeing is the result of the introduction of a regression, and when this regression was introduced.

Hi.
If i remember it correctly it worked out of the box in Oneiric.
In Precise it did not work at release day, but it got fixed later at some point after a lot of people had problems with HDMI not showing up in sound settings. So in Precise it works fine on "3.2.0-26-generic #41-Ubuntu".

Joseph Salisbury (jsalisbury) wrote :

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.5kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag(Only that one tag, please leave the other tags). This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

This issue appears to be an upstream bug, since you tested the latest upstream kernel. Would it be possible for you to open an upstream bug report at bugzilla.kernel.org [1]? That will allow the upstream Developers to examine the issue, and may provide a quicker resolution to the bug.

If you are comfortable with opening a bug upstream, It would be great if you can report back the upstream bug number in this bug report. That will allow us to link this bug to the upstream report.

On upstream bug i have to test:
"Did you pass audio=1 option to radeon driver? Otherwise HDMI/DP audio is disabled as default."
How do I do this?

I saw this bug yesterday on an updated quantal system running on a Acer 1810tz laptop. I opened the gnome-control-center and selected the sound settings, then I could not see any hdmi output. This used to work in oneiric with the same laptop.

I however managed to play the audio through hdmi by using VLC and selecting the HDMI output device directly from there. This indicates that the device is working and reported properly by the kernel (since vlc found it).

Mattias Eriksson (snaggen) wrote :

You can ignore my comment, since I realize I just looked in the wrong place... HDMI is there if you just look inte the correct dropdown.

ATI/AMD Radeon HDMI audio has been disabled by default by the upstream kernel developers as it causes blank screens on a lot of systems. You can re-enable it by adding radeon.audio=1 to your GRUB boot options as described at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2/Troubleshooting#Editing_the_GRUB_2_Menu_During_Boot

For your HD 6000 series chip you will also need a 3.5 or later kernel. Ubuntu 12.10 "Quantal Quetzal" is based on the 3.5 kernel.

madbiologist (s-j-turner) - Thank you for the reply. I do not have the latop anymore, got rid of it and bought a pure intel thinkpad that just works.
I though this bug report was dead long ago.
