Do you happen to know the last kernel version that did not have this issue?
Also, would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https:/
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-
If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-
If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-
If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".
Thanks in advance.

I'd like to help identify the commit that caused this regression.
The easiest way to figure out what update caused the regression is to perform a kernel bisect. I can perform the bisect on my end, but it usually requires testing about 7 to 10 kernels.
Do you happen to have some time to test out some kernels? I can provide some detail instructions on how to install them, etc.
In the mean time, I'll review the git logs and see if a commit sticks out that may have caused this.
Thanks in advance!

Also, it would be great if you could run the following from a terminal:
apport-collect 1015480
That will provide some additional details about your hardware and logs.

I have an U300s and the webcam works fine for me (currently in Quantal).
Do you have an other OS besides Ubuntu installed to see whether this may be a hardware problem?
Also Fn+F9 completely enables/disables the webcam hardware, perhaps you did that without knowing?
Tim.
Tim Peeters (tpeeters) wrote : | #45 |
I am running 12.10 by the way. I think it also worked fine in 12.04, but I cannot 100% guarantee that my memory is correct.

Joe,
Apologies for late follow up, but on my U300s the webcam is still working. I haven't updated the laptop in a while as this one is my second machine, so I will apply all the recent updates tomorrow and see if the camera continues working. I will let you know if I find any issues.
I am running 12.04 LTS.

I have this problem in my Lenovo Ideapad U300s too. Currently running Kubuntu 13.04 but also tested on Ubuntu 13.04. Webcam is not detected at all. I think this bug is a duplicate of this: https:/
Let me know if i can do something to help to fix the problem.

okay, i'm not sure why but now my webcam it's working again. After some updates and try different things, now "Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0ac8:3580 Z-Star Microelectronics Corp. " appears on lsusb. After that, using the FN+F9 key combination returned my webcam from the dead now it's working on Cheese and Skype. Running Kubuntu 13.04 32 bit with kernel (uname -a) "Linux arisolucion 3.8.0-19-generic #30-Ubuntu SMP Wed May 1 16:36:13 UTC 2013 i686 i686 i686 GNU/Linux". Hope this helps other U300s owners.
