Panel volume slider does not respond

This annoying bug is on the Live/USB iso and after the install same behavior on Lubuntu 12.10
amd64.iso dated 20120531. Will check i386.iso later today

As expected the i386 iso had the same issue testing 20120601 Lubuntu quantal i386 iso.

Kernel qa-testing indicates this bug happens when testing quantal kernel on original precise iso. It appears to be a kernel bug on my hardware Dell D620.

I do have a work around to this issue, but it requires installing a package to get the panel volume slider working. Package indicator-sound 0.8.5.0-0ubuntu3 (quantal)

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.5kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag(Only that one tag, please leave the other tags). This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Also, did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a kernel version where you were not having this particular problem? This will help determine if the problem you are seeing is the result of the introduction of a regression, and when this regression was introduced.

Joseph this bug occurred on a fresh pre-Alpha Quantal iso testing. I have continued to test every few days and monitor the bug on amd64 and i386 isos and it has persisted on my Dell D620 laptop. In addition, Nicholas called for installing the Quantal kernel to a working version of Precise which I also did and the bug appears on the Precise install running the Quantal kernel. If I choose to boot the precise install in the 3.2 kernel the bug is not present. This is basically what led me to believe it was a kernel bug on the 3.4 kernel.

I will hopefully attempt the mainline kernel later today and report back the results.

Okay, I have installed the current daily live Lubuntu Desktop amd64 20120619 and installed the mainline kernel.

The kernel seems to be just fine, but the bug persists for me on this hard ware.
Removed 'needs-upstream-testing' tag
Added 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream' tag.
Marked Confirmed.

I will keep this install on my testing hard drive if additional information is needed.

This issue appears to be an upstream bug, since you tested the latest upstream kernel. Would it be possible for you to open an upstream bug report at bugzilla.kernel.org [1]? That will allow the upstream Developers to examine the issue, and may provide a quicker resolution to the bug.

If you are comfortable with opening a bug upstream, It would be great if you can report back the upstream bug number in this bug report. That will allow us to link this bug to the upstream report.

Greg Faith, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please just make a comment to this.

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example:
