license question about linux-ubuntu-modules

Binary package hint: linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.22-14-generic

Hi,

I installed Gusty 7.10 to see how Ubuntu solves distributing firmwares.

I found Gusty had many firmwares in /lib/modules/2.6.22-14-generic/ubuntu by using linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.22-14-generic package (this package is 'main').

Strangely /usr/share/doc/linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.22-14-generic/copyright seems of kernel, not of each firmwares. I downloaded the source of package and there were different licenses of firmwares.
As far as I know some of these firmwares such as ipw* have a specific issue about redistribution.
Is this really OK to distribute this package without any permissions under GPL?

I'm pretty sure not all of these firmwares may be distributed unter the GPL.

I believe this has been addressed with the linux-firwmare package.
