Bug Description

Wireless (D-Link Airplus G+ DWL-G520+) does not show up in the "Network" dialogue after upgrading from Feisty to Gutsy with an alternate install cd.
The acx files are in the firmware directory for the appropriate kernel 2.6.22-7.
This is happening since the first tribe release till today and also goes for Xubuntu and Kubuntu.

This PCI card worked (works) excellent under Edgy and Feisty, so I wonder how come I get problems now and I can no longer get wireless access...

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description doesn't yet have enough information.
Please include as attachments the following additional information, if you have not already done so (please pay attention to lspci's additional options), as required by the Ubuntu Kernel Team:
1. Please include the output of the command 'uname -a' in your next response. It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version you're running, as well as the CPU architecture.
2. Please run the command 'dmesg > dmesg.log' and attach the resulting file 'dmesg.log' to this bug report.
3. Please run the command 'sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log' and attach the resulting file 'lspci-vvnn.log' to this bug report.
For your reference, the full description of procedures for kernel-related bug reports is available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies . Thanks in advance!

This is going to take a while. I removed the update this night, so I have to reinstall it. Patients.

By the way: none of the tribes recognized my Belkin PCMCIA card (rt2500) on my Dell laptop either.

Downloaded Tribe 3 today. Updated Feisty with the alternate i386 cd.
I still have the same problem: no wireless shows up at the network tool.
I also tried the i386 desktop cd on my Dell laptop: same problem. I also got an
"Internal error: failed to initialize HAL!"

Anyway: here are the new log files from my desktop pc:

cat /proc/version_signature > version.log
no such file or directory

The proc directory is completely empty.

If you haven't, make sure you have the appropriate linux-restricted-modules for your kernel installed.

I would, if I would know how to do that. I'm still new at Ubuntu and Linux. (Feb. this year)

I have the same issue.

The problem is the module acx, it cannot be loaded:

$ sudo modprobe acx
FATAL: Error inserting acx (/lib/modules/2.6.22-8-generic/ubuntu/wireless/acx/acx.ko): Invalid argument

Running 2.6.20 kernel in Gutsy (from Feisty, I didn't uninstall it) on the same system, acx is loaded and the card works without problems.

As I had pointed out in Bug #118539, this issue is essentially solved and was due to ACX sources from early 2007 which do not take into account the new mac80211 wireless stack of the 2.6.22 kernel whereas snapshot acx-20070610 does. I recommend posting any further coment in Bug #118539. Thanks!

Btw, the build procedure can be simplified even further: unpack the source tar ball in your home directory. You cd into acx-20070610 and type

   make -C /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build M=`pwd`

Then you grab acx.ko and proceed e.g. as described in hexion's HOWTO.

Launchpad Janitor (janitor) wrote : This bug is now reported against the 'linux' package

Beginning with the Hardy Heron 8.04 development cycle, all open Ubuntu kernel bugs need to be reported against the "linux" kernel package. We are automatically migrating this bug to the new "linux" package. However, development has already began for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. It would be helpful if you could test the upcoming release and verify if this is still an issue - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . If the issue still exists, please update this report by changing the Status of the "linux" task from "Incomplete" to "New". We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this transition. Thanks!

Per a decision made by the Ubuntu Kernel Team, bugs will longer be assigned to the ubuntu-kernel-team in Launchpad as part of the bug triage process. The ubuntu-kernel-team is being unassigned from this bug report. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies for more information. Thanks.
