Bug Description

The only OMAP platform that’s not included in the Ubuntu kernel is CM-T35 board.
According to Ubuntu omap maintainer "“we had some problems booting beagle with CONFIG_OMAP_MUX. But CM-T35 depends on it. So we had to unfortunately disable the board.”

Hi rppt,

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If the issue remains, please run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 571663

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

It would be quite difficult to add kernel log and additional info if the Ubuntu default kernel does not boot on my machine _at all_ :)
If I boot ti-omap flavour of the Ubuntu kernel following the ARM/BeagleNetbookInstall (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ARM/BeagleNetbookInstall) all I get is:

Uncompressing Linux ..................................................... done, booting the kernel.

The CM-T35 platform is supported by mainline Linux kernel and boots fine with recent linux-omap kernel.

The following patches allow booting Ubuntu kernel on CM-T35 and should fix the problem on BeagleBoard with CONFIG_MUX selected

Who was the Ubuntu OMAP maintainer who you speak of?

Have these patches already been sent upstream?

I've spoken with ogra and Amit Kucheria on #ubuntu-arm IRC channels.
The above patches were sent to the Ubuntu kernel team mailing list ([1]), but I haven't got any response on them.

It looks like 3 of the 4 patches have already been accepted upstream.

The final patch (patch #4) appears to be a hack to prevent regression issues with the Beagleboard. Until these issues have been corrected in an acceptable matter, I'm afraid we can't accept it into our kernel.

As this is a low priority bug, I really must work on more pressing issues.

If I find myself with some free time however, I'll be happy to work on this.

Until such time I will remain the bug's assignee and keep an eye on this report.
