Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.22

As described in the 3ware knowledge base:

http://www.3ware.com/KB/article.aspx?id=15243&cNode=6I1C6S

the 3ware driver "3w-xxxx" contains a bug that can cause corruption on Intel 64-bit EM64T systems with 4 GB or more of system RAM.

To fix this is required to update the drivers/scsi/3w-xxxx.[ch] kernel driver.

The current Ubuntu Gutsy version of the driver is 1.26.02.002 while the version with the fix is 1.26.03.000.

The source of the upgraded driver can be found in the KB article mentioned:

Hi Sandro,

Do you know if there have been any efforts to get the newer 1.26.03.000 version of the driver merged into the upstream mainline kernel. It appears upstream also has the older version 1.26.02.002. It is a lot of extra work for the Ubuntu kernel team to maintain out of tree patches. As such they require evidence of upstream submission before considering to maintain community patches locally. I'll keep this report open against the actively developed Hardy Heron kernel (ie the 'linux' package). However, we're almost at feature freeze for the kernel so this may be bumped to Hardy+1 - the Intrepid Ibex. Hope that helps. Thanks.

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.
