Bug Description
I don't know if this counts as a bug or not but it's pretty simple. I have a few DVD's one of them being the Windows Vista DVD and they can't be read by Ubuntu.
They mount as UDF volume with one text file in them. It seems that something required to read them is missing. I found source forge patches for this that supposedly correct this. I'm not a programmer or even an advanced Linux user yet so adding this patch is still slightly beyond my ability.
Again I don't know if this a bug or by design. The fix seems simple though.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https:/
It appears that the patch you referenced is not in the mainline kernel. Do you know if there have been any efforts to get this submitted and accepted into the mainline kernel? It is a lot of extra work for the Ubuntu kernel team to maintain out of tree patches. As such they require evidence of upstream submission before considering to maintain community patches locally. Thanks.
Hi Leann,
I'm happy to hear from you. As far as answering you questions I can only
ask the developer of the patch. I have had some contact with him so this
won't be difficult as long as he responds to email. I must confess that
I don't really understand how the mainlines and streams work. I
understand there is a process to this and for now I must be happy
understanding that much. I wish I knew more about programming but my
strengths are elsewhere.
I'll forward this message to the developer and see if I can get some
answers.

It would be easier for the upstream developer to get this patch in so we dont have to maintain it ourselves.
Thanks

That seems like a great idea, how does this get done?

Hi steve (as well as the subscribers from the duplicate bug),
Care to test the Intrepid Ibex 8.10 kernel which is currently being developed and available at the following PPA (personal package archive):
https:/
The Intrepid kernel was most recently sync'd with the upstream 2.6.25 kernel. Comments from the duplicate bug 196730 mentioned some patches which appear to have been pulled in upstream and thus available in the Intrepid kernel. If you are not familiar with how to install packages from a PPA basically do the following:
Add the following two lines to /etc/apt/
deb http://
deb-src http://
sudo apt-get update
Then you should be able to install the linux-image-2.6.25 kernel package. Please let us know your results. Thanks.

Actually rather than editing your /etc/apt/
/etc/apt/
deb http://
deb-src http://
It avoids possibly messing up the default repository settings that exist in /etc/apt/
Thanks.

Thanks Leann,
I'll try this out soon.

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test:
1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-image-
--or--
2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://
Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.

I'm pretty sure that this is fixed in Ibex. It's fixed in kernel 2.6.26 already.
But I have not explicitly tested it and I'm currently unable to do so.

Thanks for the note. I'm going to tentatively mark this "Fix Released" for Intrepid. Feel free to reopen this report by setting the status back to "New" if htis is not the case. However, against 2.6.22 this will be closed as it does not qualify for a Stable Release Update - http://
