It's hard to believe that a new keyboard model out of a manufacturer would require recompiling the kernel? Linus ought to be ashamed: the hex id for the specific keyboard model is hard-coded in the kernel source code?

True: it's actually a keyboard-handler loadable module, but still you seem to need the whole kernel source just to recompile that module...?
