That presumably would allow me to load my IDE drives, but I would think that they would be hdi - hjl instead of hda - hdd. Would work, but is a dirty solution. I would prefer it if the kernel loaded things in the order needed.

Please let me know how you make out with the restricted drivers. This might be a solution that I could use for the interim.
