Bug Description

Binary package hint: kernel-image-2.6.22-14-generic-di

After upgrading to 7.10, the kernel hangs right after detecting my IDE devices. The last message printed on the console before hanging is the Uniform CD Driver loading.
Choosing my previous kernel from 7.04, the system boots fine.

I use the following extra parameters to the kernel: root=/dev/md0 noapic noacpi (the last 2 are due to a buggy NIC driver in the previous Ubuntu release)

I saw some other reports about similar issue, but were related to Intel chipsets, which I don't use.

My hardware is:
Biostar TForce 4u (nForce 4 Ultra based mobo)
Athlon 64 3500+ (still using 32-bit Ubuntu though)
2GB RAM
SAMSUNG SP0411N 40GB HD (IDE Primary Master)
Seagate ST3120814A 120GB HD (IDE Primary Slave)
An ASUS DVD-ROM drive (IDE Secondary Master)

I know superficially my bug report looks a lot like 144030, however there are a couple of differences:

I never get kernel panic/oops/etc., just a hang.
I tried the fixes in that bug report (renaming acpi folder, etc.), none work.
It always hangs at exactly the same spot, right after it prints out that the CD driver is loading.

Also tested with the latest Hardy kernel (2.6.24) and I still have this problem.

I have Ubuntu Hardy 64bit with the latest kernel...
I can boot to ubuntu only if i add the following parameters to kernel
all_generic_ide
floppy=off
irqpoll
pci=nomsi

If i remove any of these parameters i can't boot to ubuntu..it hangs at mounting root filesystem..and after a while it drops to busybox
