Bug Description

I tried to install ubuntu 7.10 beta in this portable one (Clasus dynamic sr.-512). I do not have any type of sound. It did not give any error, but it does not give sound. I leave below the information gotten in consoles. If more information will be necessary was thankful that they said me and as to get it, therefore is inexperienced in linux. If somebody will be able to help me was thankful. Very obliged.

Hello. I am also new to linux and Ubuntu. I have the same problem with no sounds output in Ubuntu. It's a new laptopna nd teh sound definitely works (in teh Windows Boot). It has not worked in either teh Live CD, the 2.6.22.12 install or teh partial upgrade to 2.6.22.14. I have done all the obvious and everything looks ok in the Alsa mixer too.

I'm just not sure how to give you all teh techno info! The soundcard is detected as in all teh 'sound' options, i have teh option to choose between HDA Intel (also) or Realtec (i haven't got a clue why there's 2 options!!)

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks, Kam

Could you try the following commands and see if you get sound afterwards.

user@machine:~$ sudo rmmod -f snd-hda-intel
user@machine:~$ sudo echo "options snd-hda-intel model=auto" >> /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
user@machine:~$ sudo modprobe snd-hda-intel

I'm trying to determine if it's the same as bug #93859 or bug #131133. it would be great if you can check the symptoms at the other reports and confirm if this is true, so we can link this bug report to one of those.

Thanks in advance.

Hello. I tried the below, but when i tried teh second line, i got teh
message "permission denied" and unfortunately, teh sound still does not
work.

My symptoms don't match either of the other two bugs as have no sounds
whatsoever. Not even in the headphone socket (as some people are reporting).

May machine is a Compaq Preario V6560 model.

If there is anything else I can tell you, please let me know.

thanks, Kam

Did you include the sudo command before the echo?

The first message probably means that the module is in use so it can't be removed, you can safely ignore if your up to a reboot after change the file in the second command.
about the second error "bash: /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base: Permission denied", are you launching the command as just one line?, if you're still having trouble with this command, you could try the following one, notice that is just one line, and you must be on the X server to successfully use it:

gksu gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base

and add the text "options snd-hda-intel model=auto" without the quotation marks at the end of the file, save it and then reboot.

hope this help

Launchpad Janitor (janitor) wrote : This bug is now reported against the 'linux' package

Beginning with the Hardy Heron 8.04 development cycle, all open Ubuntu kernel bugs need to be reported against the "linux" kernel package. We are automatically migrating this bug to the new "linux" package. However, development has already began for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. It would be helpful if you could test the upcoming release and verify if this is still an issue - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . If the issue still exists, please update this report by changing the Status of the "linux" task from "Incomplete" to "New". We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this transition. Thanks!
