Bug Description

7.10 (Gutsy)
Linux tisiphone 2.6.22-12-generic #1 SMP Sat Sep 22 18:14:28 GMT 2007 i686 GNU/Linux

Press Fn+F12 -> System hibernates
Power On -> System resumes with the following error msg and shows a link button to the 'quirk website'

Sleep problem
Your computer failed to hibernate.
Check the help file for common problems.

Same thing after Suspend to RAM (Fn+F4) with the previous kernel. With the recent kernel after Resuming from Suspend to RAM the screen simply remains black. Fn+F7 or switching to a console sadly doesn't help. But that's worth another bug report, isn't it? ;)

Which additional information needed?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description does not yet have enough information.

Please include the following additional information, if you have not already done so (pay attention to lspci's additional options), as required by the Ubuntu Kernel Team:
1. Please include the output of the command "uname -a" in your next response. It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version you're running, as well as the CPU architecture.
2. Please run the command "dmesg > dmesg.log" after a fresh boot and attach the resulting file "dmesg.log" to this bug report.
3. Please run the command "sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log" and attach the resulting file "lspci-vvnn.log" to this bug report.

For your reference, the full description of procedures for kernel-related bug reports is available at [WWW] http://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies. Thanks in advance!

Just adding a note that I'm reassigning the Ubuntu Hardy kernel source package from 'linux-source-2.6.24' to just 'linux'. Beginning with the Hardy release the package naming convention changed from linux-source-2.6.x to just linux. Sorry for any confusion.

Hi Vaida,

Care to test against the latest 2.6.24-7.12 kernel and see if this is still an issue? Also, just for future reference, if you could attach your log files individually and not as a tarball it would be much appreciated. I realize launchpad doesn't allow you to do multiple attachments at once, so I apologize for any inconvenience. Thanks!

Well, it's nice to hear that it seems to work now for someone, but with Hardy Release, it still doesn't work for me ... my computer is a desktop, not a laptop.

I have the same problem on my Acer TravelMate 4601LMi laptop, running Ubuntu 8.04 with kernel 2.6.24.18 (also with some older kernel versions of this release):

When I hibernate the computer, right after hibernation it reboots so I have to turn it off manually by pressing the power button a long time. After booting up with linux the next time, it says "failed to hibernate" (which is a correct diagnosis for this situation)
