2007-09-18 09:45:39 Juksu description Yesterday's updates broke ACPI (I suspect) on HP Compaq nc8430 laptops (two threads in Gutsy Development Forums about this). The boot stops at different times, but always to the messages: 12.136... ACPI: bus type pci registered 12.136... PCI: Using configuration type 1 12.138... ACPI : EC: GPE=0x16, ports=0x66, 0x62 and there it freezes. Later , a messsage may pop up: 38.736...: CPU1:Temperature/speed normal -message in "normal" A temporary fix is to add acpi=off and irqpoll options to grub menu.lst But, since this is a laptop, it is important to get ACPI working. It could be that the changes that were made specifically for Lenovo Thinkpads that appeared yesterday (there were plenty) have something to do with this.
