In Feisty, the following works:

modprobe piix

however, although piix is loaded on the install media, it is not available once installed

An upgrade from Feisty works (keeps piix), a fresh install does not

Beginning with the Hardy Heron 8.04 development cycle, all open Ubuntu kernel bugs need to be reported against the "linux" kernel package.
