Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.22

Hi,

Currently, all my VTs (ctrl+alt+F[1-6]) are unusable, because they are filled with the following messages (and so is dmesg):
[ 1421.789350] device-mapper: table: 254:0: linear: dm-linear: Device lookup failed
[ 1421.789595] device-mapper: ioctl: error adding target to table

I can blindly login and enter 'clear' every second, but that's not very easy to type a command then. ;)

% uname -a
Linux atlantis 2.6.22-6-generic #1 SMP Fri Jun 1 19:24:12 GMT 2007 i686 GNU/Linux

(same symptom with the 2.6.22-5-generic, but everything is ok with the 2.6.20-16-generic)

Mmmh, I don't know if this bug is in udev or in the kernel. Here are the first lines of the output of top:

Hi,

I'm also experiencing this problem. It can be worked around by restarting udev. The CPU consumption drops and VTs are usable. It's a bit of a pain to do this for each restart, however.

Launchpad Janitor (janitor) wrote : This bug is now reported against the 'linux' package

Beginning with the Hardy Heron 8.04 development cycle, all open Ubuntu kernel bugs need to be reported against the "linux" kernel package. We are automatically migrating this bug to the new "linux" package. However, development has already began for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. It would be helpful if you could test the upcoming release and verify if this is still an issue - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . If the issue still exists, please update this report by changing the Status of the "linux" task from "Incomplete" to "New". We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this transition. Thanks!
