linux-image-2.6.20-12-generic fails to boot

The upgrade to linux-image-2.6.20-12-generic results in subsequent failure to boot the system.

The graphical boot-up screen ( usplash) appears, then hangs indefinitely.

2.6.20-11-generic boots fine.

Recovery mode boot also fails with 2.6.20-12-generic.

Hardware: Celeron 2GHz processor , 512 MB RAM ( 32 shared with onboard SiS graphics )

Beginning with the Hardy Heron 8.04 development cycle, all open Ubuntu kernel bugs need to be reported against the "linux" kernel package. We are automatically migrating this bug to the new "linux" package. However, development has already began for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release.
