Bug Description

I ran a dist-upgrade from Edgy to Feisty Herd 2.

I had my Attansic Ethernet L1 driver working perfectly in Edgy, but in the 2.6.20-5 kernel in Feisty, it appears the driver is broken (I'm on my laptop now). I also am unable to boot into the older kernel in GRUB - it tells me it was unable to mount the drive on block [0,0].

How does the driver appear to be broken? Are there any messages about the network adapter in /var/log/messages? Do you know what kernel module that network adapter uses?

I can't find this driver in the edgy kernel, but I've seen the patches submitted to linux-kernel and ACK'd by Jeff Garzik, so I will include this driver in feisty and push it to Ben. Can you provide an lspci -vv and lspci -vvn as attachments to this bug?

Here are the attachments.

P.S. - I went back in to Edgy for the time being, but I don't think lspci should have a different output.

P.S.S. - Also when I upgraded in Edgy to kernel 2.6.17-10, the driver module is no longer seen, I manually ran:

 "insmod /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/drivers/net/atl1/atl1.ko"

...but modprobe atl1 does not work anymore for some reason. I just hope this driver problem is fixed :P

Now, I still have Feisty on my machine, but I also have the kernel 2.6.17.x from Edgy still on there. When this fix is released in the latest Feisty kernel, would I be able to update it from the Edgy kernel?

Ok, so I kept the older kernel - 2.6.17.xx so I could keep getting updates... and when I updated to 2.6.20-8-generic, I noticed the network manager saw a wired connection.

I typed "lspci" in a terminal, and this was the output:

02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Attansic Technology Corp. L1 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (rev b0)

Thanks guys!

Long live Ubuntu.
