It happens on my pinnacle card, and I also noticed it happened on my fathers hauppauge card, both using the bttv driver. ps indeed hangs, and starting kdetv after it fails. However there is no useful info in dmesg or syslog. Kernel is 2.6.20.16-generic on both. This bug is probably a kernel bugt though, as no programs should be able to make another program hang in the process table, no matter what happens.
