Bug Description

Here is a hibernation problem with Matthew's favourite brand of laptop. Hibernation is infinitely better in Edgy, since this morning (20/09/2006), than it was in Dapper or the Knot 3 CD.

About 1 in 5 times, however I am getting:

Here is the complete extract from my syslog for the period immediately preceding telling the machine to hibernate until after it was fully awake again.

My machine just failed in this way. If I try and hibernate again, the same thing keeps happening. This suggests to me that it isn't just intermittent. I can't figure out what could be causing it, however, so any help would be very welcome.

This happens on my Thinkpad x60s when using Upstart. I do not experience this problem when using sysvinit instead.

I can confirm that this happens on my Dell Inspiron 510m, with Edgy. It happens occasionally when closing the lid - but *appears* to happen more often when I use the Fn+Esc (Suspend) Hotkey.

I forgot to mention that I have configured gnome-power-manager to suspend when the lid is closed.

I'm occasionally experiencing this problem with my ThinkPad X60s: Trying to suspend fails with the message "stopping tasks timed out after 20 seconds", then it tries to resume, but the display isn't turned on.

I know there's a seperate bug reported about the display not being turned on when resuming, related to s3_bios support, but when suspending succeeds, resuming will work properly as well. Only when it fails to suspend will the display stay turned off.

So I believe that fixing suspend will automatically fix resume, at least on my laptop.

(I also reported this to Bug #70602 - not sure if/how it might be related to this issue!)

Is this still a problem in the latest stable of Edgy or Feisty? or the development release of Gutsy?

I haven't had it on Feisty or Gutsy (that I can remember), so feel
free to close it. I will reopen it if I have the problem again.
