Does unmuting 'Master' resolve this issue?g

Daniel,

Indeed, I had sound muted when I issued lspci and amixer but that's not the issue..

At 100 % unmuted, the volume is really low and distorted. You can barely hear something on the headphones either.

As I'm stating under bug 64356 a friend has a pretty similar laptop but doesn't have the issue. alsamixer reports a realtek chipset on his machine and a "generic" chipset on mine. That's the only difference we could fine between our two machines.

Fyi, I had the same problem under Fedora Core.

I decided to try the latest alsa-drivers available on the official homepage (1.0.13) released in september and it fixed my issue.

I'm so confused and so glad at the same time, I'm sorry for the useless posts but...

The ALSA project released updated drivers today (still RC though) !

http://www.alsa-project.org/changes/v1-0-13--v1-0-14rc1.txt

I upgraded to 1.0.14rc1 manually and it finally fixes my issue for good

Thanks guys !

Ok... im trying Linux for first time. I have a laptop Pavillion dv8000 on Ubuntu Edgy, and as I have readed your posts, seems like I have the same problem. The sound too low. Well, following your histories I downloaded the last ALSA drivers (1.0.14rc1).
Now I have the folder named "alsa-driver-1.0.14rc1" on my desktop but I have no idea what's the next step and how to do it. May some one help me?

And sorry for my ban english.
