My Quickcam Web (046d:0850) does not work in Feisty. In regards to reverse engineering the Quickcam Web driver, I have found this page:

Update from Bronto: "The same webcam with the same driver and the same version of Skype worked flawlessly in Debian. The same thing happened to Wengophone, that worked ok with that webcam until I switched to Ubuntu"

Hardy Heron Alpha2 was recently released. It contains an updated version of the kernel. You can download and try the new Hardy Heron Alpha2 release from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/hardy/alpha-2/ . You should be able to then test the new kernel via the LiveCD.
